Global Nexus Awards Contract For Undersea Cable System To Subcom

New 100G Wavelength Cable System to Provide Diverse International Connectivity to the Caribbean and Americas Region, Landing in Bahamas, USA, Bermuda and Canada

Global Nexus Telecommunications, a new provider of wholesale telecommunications capacity, and TE SubCom (SubCom), a TE Connectivity Ltd. company and an industry pioneer in undersea communications technology, today announced the signing of a supply contract for phase one of the Global Nexus Cable System.

Phase one of the Global Nexus network will provide low latency, resilient and diverse, ultra high capacity rates between Canada and the Bahamas, with onward connectivity to the USA, Latin and South America and serve as a catalyst to mesh hemispheric and regional networks. The system will be initially deployed with advanced 40GBit/s transmission technology and is designed to be compatible with SubCom’s 100GBit/s transmission equipment. The system itself will be delivered under a nineteen month program.

“Global Nexus will offer important new links to service the rapidly growing markets of Latin America, the Caribbean and South America with the United States and Europe and uniquely provide an alternative route to the rest of the world with the ability to bypass the traditional bottlenecks around the United States. Additionally, we will also provide a diverse subsea path to the NAP of the Americas from Europe or the North East United States,” said Sir William Allen, Chairman of Global Nexus Telecommunications. “We look forward to our partnership with SubCom, who we believe is uniquely positioned in this region to provide us with maximum confidence of on-time delivery through their superior permitting expertise and track record of delivering cable systems landing into the United States. SubCom will also be providing long-term network support to us, including marine maintenance services, which will enable our customers to have every confidence of a high quality product and service from Global Nexus Telecom on the important routes we are serving. Utilizing the latest developments in transmission technology will enable us to provide our customers with highly scalable and immediately available wholesale capacity.”

“We are pleased to have been awarded the supply contract for the Global Nexus Cable System, which will provide much needed diversity in the region at a lower cost,” said Mark Wickham, SubCom Managing Director Sales Americas. “The system is designed to be ready for our 100G product, which will not only provide advanced and dependable capabilities, but it also ensures international and regional capacity demands will be met well into the future.”
