NHC Adds to Curriculum

The National Hyperbaric Center’s (NHC), in Aberdeen, Training Division has recently added new training courses and 2 competency assessments to its curriculum. The introduction of Air Diving Supervisor Emergency Procedure Assessment, Bell Survival Packs and Emergency Personal CO2 Scrubbers and Competency Assessment of Diving Mask and Helmet Technicians course to the NHC’s portfolio have been added at customer demand.
The Air Diving Supervisor Emergency Procedure Assessment has been designed to ensure that the appointed Diving Supervisor has the required level of knowledge and is competent to be able to operate a decompression chamber in an emergency, develop and carry out emergency response procedures and identify diving related emergencies.
The objective of the one-day Bell Survival Packs and Emergency Personal CO2 Scrubber is to teach appropriate personnel the skills and ability to service and re-pack diving bell survival packs and emergency lung-powered CO2 scrubbers.
The Competency Assessment of Diving Mask and Helmet Technician is to ensure that already qualified ‘Diving Hat Maintainers’ are able to re-validate their certificate of competence without having to complete a full three day course. It should only be undertaken by personnel who have current experience of regular maintenance of diving masks and helmets and possess an in-date certificate.
These assessments and courses are normally carried out that the National Hyperbaric Centre’s premises which is appropriately equipped. However, they can be carried out at any location, onshore or offshore if appropriate equipment is available.
Keith McMillan, Training Manager at the NHC added “We’ve been approached by several of our existing clients who want to assess the competency of its personnel, so we have developed these assessments and course to achieve this.”
