Teledyne RDI Users Conference

Teledyne RD Instruments (RDI) hosted its 8th ADCPs in Action (AiA) Users’ Conference in San Diego, California on October 2-5, 2011. Nearly 200 Teledyne RDI Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) users and industry partners from around the globe converged on Mission Bay to share information and learn from each other during this 3-day industry event. Harry Maxfield, Teledyne RDI’s V.P. Sales/Marketing reports “Each time we host this event, I feel like we’ve topped the last, and this year is no different. The feedback from attendees was that this was our best AiA to date. Although we continue to change up the event and speakers to keep it fresh, this year’s conference just had a great vibe about it. I believe this due in part to the attendance of so many new scientists and engineers this year. There was great mix of fresh ideas from new users and hard won experience from our long standing customers. It was a great blend of the old and the new.”
This year’s Users’ Conference was once again split into four concurrent tracks, covering the following topic areas: acoustic Doppler flow and discharge measurements in rivers and streams; acoustic Doppler current profiling and wave measurements in the ocean environment; and underwater Doppler navigation and diving tools.
In addition to nearly 50 customer presentations, the event included: poster papers; 22 event co-sponsors/exhibits; one-on-one meetings with Teledyne RDI’s staff; a data QA/QC clinic; on-water demonstrations; 17 training courses; the launch of Teledyne RDI’s new Sentinel V ADCP, Velocity software, and PAVS150 long range DVL; and a post-event facility tour. To offset the technical elements, the event also included ample networking opportunities such as Sunday group outings, an exhibitors’ cocktail hour, lunch on the beach, and a highly-charged beach party dinner event.
Over the course of AiA, nearly 85 of Teledyne RDI’s employees cycled through the event to meet with customers and listen to their presentations. Margo Newcombe, Teledyne RDI’s Marketing Communications Manager adds, “We were definitely pleased at the number of Teledyne RDI employees that asked to be a part of this year’s users’ conference. This is just another indication of our employees’ dedication to our customers. They truly want to understand how our products are being used, and what they can do to improve our customers’ experience. This year’s event attendees rated their time spent with our staff as one of the event’s most valuable elements.”
