Secretary Salazar to Mark Milestone

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will be in New Orleans to mark a major milestone in jump starting restoration of the Gulf region after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Secretary Salazar will also announce the results of the Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 218, the first offshore oil and gas lease sale since Deepwater Horizon and part of President Obama’s goal of expanding safe and responsible domestic energy production.

At 11am CST, Salazar will visit the P&J Oyster Company located in
the French Quarter where he will highlight a key step in the ongoing
interagency work to restore the region’s natural resources that were
injured by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Media unable to attend in person may participate in the press conference via phone. Earlier in the day, Salazar will participate in the Lease Sale 218 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome where he will offer brief remarks and open several bids. Results of the lease sale will be announced at the 11am CST press conference.
