Horizon Marine Announces New Hires

Image: Horizon Marine Marion, Massachusetts, January 4, 2011 - Horizon Marine, provider of operational oceanographic and environmental services to the offshore energy industry, announces the recent hiring of Physical Oceanographers Michael Christensen, Jimmie Pelton and Jill Nelson to the Marion office. Patrice Coholan, President of Horizon Marine, said "With the increase in deep water drilling activity and rig movements around the world, the demand for our routing and tracking service, Route Watch, has never been greater. With our expansion into Brazil and increasing line of services, the time is right to be hiring and strengthening the company for the benefit of our clients."

Michael Christensen, M.S., a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire's Graduate School, has joined Horizon Marine as Eddy Watch Analyst. His master's thesis focused on identifying the frequency and cause of shallow winter mixed layers in the Gulf of Maine. Over the past summer, Michael was an engineering technician, studying the chemistry and ecosystems in the Arctic Pacific environment aboard the USCG Ice Breaker Healy. Michael's duties at Horizon Marine will include analyzing data and preparing reports on the location, strength and migration of ocean currents in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Trinidad and Brazil.

Jill Nelson, M.S., holds a B.S in Professional Meteorology from Mississippi State University and recently completed her graduate studies in Marine Science at North Carolina State University. Her thesis research focused on air-sea interactions within U.S east coast winter extra-tropical storms. With her background, experience and professional interest in coupled atmosphere-ocean modeling and ocean observing and prediction, Jill's addition as Eddy Watch Analyst will bring an added dimension to the program. Her duties, like Michael's, will include analyzing data and preparing Eddy Watch reports.

Jimmie Pelton, M.S., has joined Horizon Marine as the Route Watch Operations Manager. Throughout a highly varied naval career of over 23 years, Jimmie has applied a broad range of data analysis tools and methods to operational problems within the fields of oceanography, maritime communications and marine engineering. His seagoing experience includes a firm working knowledge of ship handling, navigation, propulsion, ballasting, and casualty control. Jimmie's duties will include providing routing reports and forecasts on ocean current conditions with waypoint recommendations that improve time and fuel efficiency for vessels during asset relocation projects around the world.

Horizon Marine's founder and CEO, Jim Feeney, said "The growth of our company over the past 29 years has only been possible due to our talented team. This addition of 3 new team members marks the start of a new phase within the company as we strive to further build our suite of services and our depth of support to our valued clients."
